"A Real-Quick Work-agraphy" A small dose of what I have been up to, in regards to my choice of career path. (2012)
Ckhello! Chaii!! How do Jou do!? :) I hope very gu! ;) Very nice to meet You--my name is Miriam Sotomayor.
I am a Native New Yorker, who was born to explore (in 1985)! Started in 2005, at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), as a Nursing undergrad. "Start here and go anywhere!" That's what their tagline says--and it's true. I changed gears in 2006 and transfered to New York City College of Technology (City Tech.) In 2008 I graduated with my Associates in Art and Advertising and again in 2010, with my Bachelors in Communication Design.
Since 2007, I have been working on becoming a successful artist. I worked with New Tech Times (NTT), City Tech's official publication, for three years. I started as the advertising manager, I lead as Editor-in-Chief and I retired as Senior Editor. I experienced every position within the team. In October 2009, our legendary team won NTT's first award ever! We were 5th, Best of Show, of Austin's Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) National Convention. Great milestone! Our success still lives today--six generations later, and counting! Some of my most favorite people in the World are NTTians.
In 2009, I earned the opportunity to intern at USA Today, as a junior graphic designer. I met a handful of creatives and learned that being a graphic designer is not only tedious, but can come with small benefits.
After graduation I ventured into the realms of semi-precious jewelry and fashion. After all, being in the Fashion World is a part of My Big Dream. I worked at Gold Mine Jewelers and then interned with Chibi Jewels. Shortly after, I joined the Maggie Norris Couture (MNC) team. Intense four months that was! My second day there, I was being nurtured to cover for the personal assistant (manager.) I built a team of 12 and re-organized most of the Atelier. I also helped with basic accounting--taxes, bills, checks...audits.
During my time there, I met many great people. February 1st, 2012, I joined forces with Ralph Lauren's very own Fashion Designer + Illustrator, Madame Audrey Schilt, who I met at Maggie's. I promised three months, but things were going so well, we carried on for double the time. We worked on her brand and many desktop publishing projects. I composed various proposals and presentations. It was great!
Through Audrey, I met outstanding people as well, including Tom Foley and Rose LoBue, an awesome, successful, business couple. Together, Audrey and I, worked on kick-starting Soho Staffing, LLC's initial corporate identity. With just one meeting and dinner, we conceptualized a strong, unique vision. The following meeting, Audrey, Blaise Holtz (a teenage-fashion-beast) and I, created the Soho Stamp! It was like magic--our collaboration.
I officially joined Soho Staffing, LLC, as a Freelance Creative Director and Graphic Designer. We planted a seed and I nurtured it for six-months. I created several identity elements, stationery, campaign concepts, a brand manual and designed the website for Go Daddy to develop.
Moreover, I have embraced my passions and talents, by creating a business network--working with other Ingenious Artisans. We work with each other, not for each other. That is our motto.
I collaborate with my strengths: conceptual art, corporate identity, editorial design, advertisement, marketing, photography, vector art, styling, event planning and business management. I am the ideal team player, and leader. People say...and I believe, I am great with people (of all ages and backgrounds.) Maybe...it is because my underlying interest in psychology and sociology.
Thus far, I have worked with artists of all kinds: musicians, actors, models, fashion designers, graphic designers, illustrators, photographers, business moguls and many more Traditional, Contemporary, and New Generation Entrepreneurs.
Since 2008, I have also executed an assortment of freelance jobs. Most corporate identity, advertising or desktop publishing related: invitations, posters, and direct-mailers. Furthermore, I plan, organize, and host events, such as, open-mics, fundraisers, mini-concerts, special events and holiday/special event parties. I create party games, custom party favors, gifts and simple jewelry. Moreover, I conceptualize fashion lines and design apparel. (To see work, please contact; not showcased in website.)
I am searching for employment with an entity that will inspire, challenge and value Me. I am looking for an opportunity that will nurture My career, as I help them achieve their goals.
